Our Practice

Our PracticePartners Imaging Center of Sarasota was developed and is owned by the partner radiologists, Drs. Richard M. Goldberg, Charles J. Davenport, and Roman Rozin. Predominantly, we are a medical practice of highly experienced subspecialist radiologists using state of the art imaging equipment to produce superior images and accurate reports to achieve a proper diagnosis for our patients and referring physicians.

OUR PHILOSOPHY:

Medical imaging, …it all begins with a proper diagnosis. It often determines if therapy should be started, if the patient is responding to therapy, or whether it should be continued or changed. It can determine if surgery is necessary and provides the surgeon with a needed roadmap to plan his surgery and what to expect. It evaluates whether a disease or injury has recurred, if past surgery or treatment has led to other problems, or if there is a completely different, unrelated problem.

Often, the patient has one chance to arrive at a proper diagnosis through medical imaging. If the diagnosis is not made, is wrong, or if other important findings are not mentioned in the report, it can lead to improper or inadequate treatment. At Partners Imaging Center of Sarasota, our radiologists are trained and experienced in a subspecialty body system that ensures that the patient gets the best possible chance for a complete and accurate diagnosis.

At Partners Imaging, we have the most up to date, advanced scanning equipment to provide optimal, diagnostic images and have the knowledge of how to use the equipment. To arrive at a proper diagnosis, we realize the importance of having radiologists design fast and accurate scan protocols, properly position the patient's anatomy, and decide when and how to use contrast material based on each patient's clinical history and symptoms. Most importantly, we are knowledgeable of the wide variety of normal variants and pathologies for a given body system, how this presents on a scan, and how it relates to the patient's symptoms. That only comes with proper training and experience.

As an example, Dr. Richard Goldberg, by using CT Angiography (CTA) with 3D imaging for a patient who was short of breath, detected small emboli (blood clots) in small pulmonary artery branches that would otherwise not have been detected with a conventional CT scan of the chest. This enabled an accurate diagnosis and proper treatment.

Neuroradiologist, Dr Charles Davenport, detected a subtle developmental brain anomaly on an MRI scan that correlated to the patient's seizure focus. That was seen only on a special MRI sequence that Dr. Davenport added based on the patient's history of chronic seizures and EEG findings. After many years of drug therapy, the patient had this focus surgically ablated, is now seizure free, and no longer requires medication.

Musculoskeletal radiologist, Dr. Roman Rozin designed an MRI scanning protocol with proper patient positioning for a patient with chronic ankle pain. This led to his detection of a small cartilage injury that he suspected based on the mechanism of injury and other MRI findings of ligamental injury that resulted in successful treatment. He also pointed out a normal anatomic variant of an accessory muscle that the referring doctor suspected was a mass or swelling.

WHO IS READING YOUR SCAN?

While there are differences in image quality depending on the equipment, there is greater variability and potentially more serious consequences regarding the reporting of the scan results. At many hospitals and imaging centers, a pool of radiologists, including general and less experienced radiologists, are assigned to interpret scans. In some cases, non radiologists may actually be the only ones providing results. Depending on who happens to be reading a particular scan, this often results in a vague and non-specific report which may not be fundamentally incorrect, but nevertheless, is not helpful to the referring physician. The patient in turn has lost an opportunity to receive proper treatment. The radiologists at Partners Imaging are board certified, subspecialty trained, highly experienced, and take our responsibility seriously. Each radiologist has interpreted tens of thousands of scans in his area of specialty. Because we read cases exclusively in our area of expertise, our reports are consistently accurate and highly detailed with pertinent positives and negatives. At the same time, they are relevant and practical to the patient's problems.

At Partners Imaging, we understand the importance of prompt results. In most cases, a final transcribed report is sent to the referring physician or is available on our secure network within a few hours of completing the scan. All wet readings or pertinent results are called stat to the referring physician with a full written report following shortly thereafter. As a courtesy to our referring physicians, we often provide a 2nd opinion report on outside scans.
