High Speed CT with 3D Reconstruction
Computed Tomography (CT) uses x-rays and computers to show detailed
cross-sectional anatomy. After x-rays pass through parts
of the body, they are recorded and displayed as images of shades of gray
depending on the density and location of the body part tissue. At PICS
the GE 16 channel Lightspeed CT scanner is one of the newest helical/spiral
CT scanners available. It allows for very fast scanning, up to
32 images per second. A chest or abdomen can be scanned in 10 seconds
or less. This results in a more comfortable exam for our patients
with a faster scan and less time required for breath hold. Also,
detecting lesions like lung nodules by the radiologist is increased. Because
of this technology, we can perform CT angiography (CTA) which allows
us to obtain three-dimensional pictures of arteries serving the brain,
lungs, kidneys, heart, arms, and legs. A fast CT cardiac calcium
scoring exam can be performed to help evaluate a person's cardiac risk. State
of the art CT imaging at Partners Imaging Center of Sarasota.
